Study Articles : Problem of procrastination and avoiding revision, missing exams

One of the commonest problem worrying students is the tendency to put thing off until the last moment - or until its too late, however this is not just a problem for students. Probably every one of us has tried to avoid some unpleasant task at some time - it is a natural human reaction. We all have our own preferred way of working. If letting the tension build up a bit before you get started works well for you, then there is no reason you should change. However, if you get increasingly behind with your work and end up feeling bad about yourself and your course the problem needs addressing.
What Causes Us to Procrastinate?
  • Low frustration tolerance
  • Lack of Self-Esteem
  • Getting Overwhelmed
  • Under-Developed Study Skills
  • Unrealistic Expectations
  • Resentment
  • Habituation and Lifestyle Depression
Breaking the Habit of Procrastinating
Use relaxation and visualisation techniques and see what you could achieve. Imagine having all your work done before the deadlines; imagine doing six hours work a day then going out without a guilty conscience; imagine getting good (but not perfect!) grades without having to panic and sit up all night. Work out what particular thing stops you working and once you can bring your unhealthy belief related to study into the day light, than you can start looking at the best ways for you to deal with your procrastination.
  • Do something ... Anything ... Now... to get closer to your goal
  • Don´t Stop Because Something Is Difficult
  • Make a List and a Timetable
  • Arrange your Work in an Achievable Way
  • Don´t Aim for the Impossible. Consider your Lifestyle. Aim to Get More Organised
  • Take Action about anything you Really Cannot Stand. Find Help if Needed
